RJ45 netværksstik:
Når netværksudstyr forbindes med PDS-kabler anvendes dels lige igennem netværkskabler (fx fra switch til PC), dels krydsede (fx fra PC til PC).
Et lige igennem netværkskabel vil ikke virke efter hensigten, hvis farveparrene blot placeres to og to efter hinanden. Hvordan gøres det så?
Lige igennem netværkskabel: Stikkene i begge ender af kablet monteres efter fx 568A (det er lige så godt at montere begge stik efter 568B).
Krydset netværkskabel: Det ene stik på kablet monteres efter 568A, det andet efter 568B.
RJ45-stik monteret efter henholdsvis TIA/EIA 568A og 568B.
Et netværkskabel, hvis to stik er monteret som ovenstående, er et krydset kabel.
Det bemærkes, at blåt og brunt par er placeret ens i både A og B.
Farveparrene er nummereret fra 1 til 4 på følgende måde:
1. Blå
2. Orange
3. Grøn
4. Brun
Nogle netværksstandarder gør brug af samtlige par til datatransmissionen (fx 1000BASE-T), men ellers er det sædvanligvis par 2 og 3, der bliver transmitteret data på (fx ved 10BASE-T og 100BASE-TX). Et almindeligt analogt telefonsignal føres typisk på par 1.

Unilink (SONY):
Terminal betegnelser:
1 – Reverse or ready – on older systems
2 – Reset – Reset signal sent to slaves. Slaves can not send to master. LOW going pulse signals the system reset.
3 – SIRCS – Decoded by master then may issue UniLink commands. This line is used by the master to receive SIRCS data (Serial InferRed Control System, also known as Control-S)
4 – CLOCK – Clock from master. Bus clock signal generated from the master for all bus signals
5 – DATA – Bi-directional 5V TTL I/O. When the bus is active it may be idle or active. When idle the bus appears as a square wave with a period of 16ms (8ms low and 8ms high). When the data bus is active and data is flowing the pulse width of the square wave will change length depending on the data word length
6 – Bus-ON – Bus-On from master, cascaded to other slaves. When the bus is off, it is in ‘sleep’ mode and there is no data communications. High=ON, Low=OFF
7 – +12V – Backup +12 volt 2 ampere max
